Overview TOEFL
TOEFL ( Test of English as a Foreign Language) is one model of English test that is used to measure the proficiency level of proficiency or those who do not have English as their native language ( non- native speakers ) . TOEFL is generally used as one of the prerequisites for study abroad , especially countries that use English as the language of instruction . TOEFL usually also be a requirement to continue the study of S- 2 and S - 3 in the country . Even recent S-1 students at top universities in Indonesia are also required to have a certain TOEFL score as a condition of graduation . Similarly TOEFL is starting to be used in the workplace as one of the mechanisms of recruitment or career advancement path .
Types and TOEFL score is
TOEFL consists of two types , namely Computer - based Testing and Paper-based Testing . Computer - based models are the TOEFL test that uses computers . This model a rating scale ranged from 40-300 . While the second type , Paper-based , is the TOEFL test using paper as a medium for testing . This model of assessment scores ranged from 217-677 . The second form is the most widely and commonly used . To that end , the discussion in this blog sluruh we limit the assessment system using paper-based models .
The minimum TOEFL score required at various universities and other institutions differ from one another . Scholarship to study abroad for the S - 2 , for example , requires a TOEFL score between 450-550 , and to the level of the S - 3 in the top 550 . As for the graduate program in Indonesian universities usually require a score of 400 as the minimum . In the workplace , TOEFL score required also varies according to the needs of each agency .
Model Testing
There are four sections tested in the TOEFL test ;
1 . listening Comprehension
This section is used to test the ability of the test participants in the conversation or listening to spoken language is done in English . The participants are expected to listen to each conversation ( either dialogue or monologue ) derived from a tape recorder or other audio media .
2 . Structure and Written Expression
This section is used to determine the ability of the grammatical test participants , including the styles of writing in the English language . In general , the test participants are expected to choose the answer that best completes the sentence and also must find that there is an error in a sentence .
3 . Reading Comprehension
This section is intended to determine the test participants' understanding of the texts written in English . In general , the test participants are expected to answer questions about the meaning , ideas , specific information , as well as specific vocabulary contained in the readings tested .
4 . Test of Written English ( TWE )
This section is devoted to determine the ability of test takers to perform writing in English . In this test , a test taker is given a particular topic or theme and then asked to write ideas on the theme. But not all TOEFL test TWE testing this , even just a little bit that put it as one of the test material .
All answers provided in the TOEFL test using a model of multiple choice ( multiple choise ) , consists of four answer choices ( A , B , C , & D ) .
